Sexy P.I. David Anderson takes one look at Jacey Wilder and knows she's no femme fatale. The red-headed smart-aleck in his office couldn't be more different from the tight-skirted dames he creates in pulp fiction novels. But Jacey is a paying customer and he's encountered precious few of those lately. All he has to do is track down her old boyfriend. How hard could it be?

With her thirtieth birthday fast approaching, Jacey is determined to get her life on track. Locating Albert- a suave, normal guy who romanced her one weekend-seems like the logical first step. But when she enlists the services of P.I. Anderson, logic is suddenly in short supply: Albert's not as normal as he seemed, and Jacey's starting to wonder if the man she's really searching for isn't right under her nose...

More Praise!

"Ever since Dashiell Hammett's The Thin Man (1934) introduced detective Nick Charles and his wife, Nora, readers have craved crime tales where the snappy romantic repartee sets off more sparks than the gunshots. Kenner's festive, fast-talking romantic mystery (Undercover Lovers, etc.) satisfies that craving. Determined to settle down before her rapidly approaching 30th birthday, impoverished artist Jacey Wilder, having given up collage-creation for a career in accounting, hires private investigator/crime writer Dave Anderson (who is, by his own admission, not the best but definitely the cheapest). Jacey wants Dave to find her missing boyfriend, Albert Alcott, a lawyer she picked up at a fancy hotel four months earlier and then ditched after mistaking him for a serial killer. Unbeknownst to Jacey, Albert and a few mob thugs are looking for her-and the cache of stolen jewels hidden in her car. The protagonists' sexy sparring infuses the narrative with wit and energy, as do their brushes with danger. Though Dave is more a tough-talking Mike Hammer-type detective than a suave Charles, Kenner's flair for dialogue and eccentric characterizations could well make the wisecracking hunk and his deceptively ditsy client the Nick and Nora of the new millennium."

"Nobody But You is San Diego sunshine at its best-glowing, warm, impossible to say good-bye to before the last delightful page."
   —Romance Book Page

"Nobody But You knocked my socks off! This is a one sitting, page turning, put-a-smile-on-your-face, and laugh-out-loud story. There just seems to be no end to Julie Kenner's talent for writing off-the-wall sexy, romantic comedy and creating wonderful characters. ... This highly entertaining book has it all—romance, comedy, mystery—and I highly recommend it."

Story Behind the Story

I love mysteries, and I especially love the idea of writing a hard-boiled mystery. Since I wasn't actually going to do that, though, I did the next best thing—a caper-style romance with a hard-boiled flair. Each chapter begins with a snippet of the hard-boiled detective novel that hero David Armstrong is drafting. It was a hoot to write. I hope you have as much fun reading it as I did writing it!
